Bear Down Logistics Introduces ‘The Voice’
Last month, Bear Down Logistics announced a new hotline program that provided any employee a worry-free opportunity to ask a question or to bring an important detail about their work environment, via email, to the attention of upper management.
The new program puts BRDL employees directly in touch with the BRDL Ownership team. This particular facet of the program makes it rather unique.
It might not surprise you that the idea for something like the Voice, a safe place where employees can communicate directly with the highest levels of the company management, is not something every company embraces. After all, isn’t that level of communications the kind of stuff handled by station managers?
According to BRDL Vice President Operations Mike DiPiazza, the short answer to that question is: ‘typically, yes.’
“We have enough experience with the logistics process to recognize that there’s always going to be some exceptional situation, one that doesn’t quite fit the parameters or the guidelines in place, that should be addressed,” says Mike. “Our opinion is that we stand to gain far more by taking this initiative than we stand to lose.”
With hundreds of BRDL trucks and drivers handing millions of Amazon packages within more than a dozen very different environments, Mike explains there is a real trust factor that goes into implementing a program like the Voice.
“We trust our station managers and we know they trust us enough to not feel threatened by this direct line of communications,” he says. “Sure, there may be a few questionable emails that come through, but the potential upside far outweighs the time it may take to address a few emails.”
Mike says that the official BRDL approach is still for employees to bring concerns directly to their station managers. However, for those employees that may not be comfortable going that route, the Voice provides a way to address concerns and potentially solve problems.
